Welcome to “Baby Big Hair Blast” where we highlight BIG HAIR artisans and their muses:) Up next to the BBH stage is Mommy Amelia and her SUPACUTE daughter Raven, and trust her big hair is alllll the rave! Oowee, the girl is simply stunning. Well, we had the opportunity to “chat down” with Mommy Ameila to get the mots on that glorious head of hair. Let’s get to it shall we?
BBH: What is your hair washing routine?
We wash a total of once a week, and I would have to say the process is pretty intricate. We start by conditioning for 30 minutes. Then we wash after we condition and quickly follow up with re-conditioning. While conditioning the second time we comb through the hair with a large tooth comb to prep the hair for the final steps, this will help decrease tangling, and work conditioner completely into the hair. After these steps I braid the hair into 4-6 braids and I let it air dry. For big Hair I always do this process the day before. After it is dry I take it out of the braids and I separate and viola beautiful hair. [BBH: BAM! See there?!?! This Mommy’s got it down folks. That braid out is something fierce!!]
BBH: What do you find are the challenges for styling Raven’s hair and how do you over come them? The number one challenge in styling Ravens hair has to be the fact that she is extremely tender headed [BBH: gasp! oh nooo], and I must admit that I have found that a good bribe sprinkled with a few threats go a long way. [BBH: Get it Mommy:)]
BBH: How do you entertain Raven when styling her hair?
I guess you could say all the usual suspects like T.V., video games or her favorite snack. She pretty much makes up her mind what she will allow to distract her on any given day. [BBH: Ow! IT’s HER THANG (dunanunanah!), she do what she wanna doooo (dunanunanah!), LOL!! Hhhhhhh, I kill myself:)]
BBH: What are your fav products these days?
The two products that we must use in our home are Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Conditioner, and Johnson’s Buddies easy-comb Detangler. [BBH: Wha!? Johnson and Johnson has something that will work with alllllll that BIG HAIR?]
BBH: How does Raven feel about her hair??
If she could have it her way she would go natural all the time but, it’s not hard to tell she loves the result whenever she really does take the time to get it done up. [BBH: I can tell by that GORGEOUS bright smile, lil’precious:)]
BBH: Tips for wearing BIG HAIR or fav “quick” styles.
My number one favorite Big Hair quick style is: The pull back afro-puff [BBH: WATCH OUT NOW! Big “HUR” in daaaaaaaaaa (*clap*) Baa-aaaa–aaack!! Woo! Yes honey!! LOVE IT]
Last but not least, anything you would like to share about haircare in general or experiences with Raven’s hair? The most important thing about Raven’s hair is to know that she does not have wash and go hair [BBH: Trust, I already know, SMH]. After washing her hair it does require treatment or it will tangle and when Ravens hair gets tangled everyone suffers [BBH: That’s so Raven!]. Raven has a big sister named Sydney 7.5 who also enjoys modeling, dancing, and acting. [BBH: Ya’ll sho’got some purdy babies!!]
