Welcome to “Baby Big Hair Blast” where we highlight BIG HAIR artisans and their muses:) We’ve been blasting off like crazah for mother’s day this month. Ya’ll tired of me yet?!?  Up next to the BBH stage and ending this delightful trip down blasting lane is Mommy KeaShay of Lil Lady and Me (featuring handmade tutus and accessiories) and her lil’man man, “Lil D”.  And I mean prepare yourself to feel utterly ridiculous for pining over a 3 yr old’s mane.  ^^^?!?!? Ok, seriously?!?  Seriously.  OHGAA! This is by far the most hair I’ve seen on a boy, and maybe even on a 3 year old in general, even when stretched!! Heck on a mannequin! Well, we were happy to “chat” down with Mommy KeaShay and get the goods on Lil D and all his BIG HAIR. might.  Let’s get to it shall we?

BBH: What is your hair washing routine?
Lil D gets his hair washed about once every 2 wks. I know that sounds like a long time [BBH: *shrugs shoulders* nope we’re 2-3 weeks here…], but for a 3 year old boy with hair down his back I keep him braided a lot in styles that last me about 1.5 – 2wks. He gets washed with Organix and DevaCurl One Condition (alternating). Sometimes we leave a lil of the DevaCurl One Condition in for moisture, we also use DevaCurl Heaven in Hair as a ‘treatment’ with a cap on and he air dries. He gets styled the next day, never the same day as a wash to let his hair completely dry. [BBH:  Hhhmmmm, DevaCurl you say……]

[BBH: UGH!  I could SMOOSH THOSE CHEEKS!! And the hair?!?]

BBH: How do you keep Lil D’s hair moisturized?
Aside from DevaCurl One, I use DevaCurl Set It Free as a re-moisturizer. Once his hair has dried, if it needs a lil boost, we use a lil water and Set It Free together. [BBH:  Free Free, set it Free!]

[BBH:  Seriously Mommy? *turning green*]

BBH: How does Lil D feel about his hair?
Lil D’s hair is his security.  [BBH:  Now that’s a BIIIIIIG wubby!! Does it keep him warm at night? ] When he is not sure of his surroundings (new store, crowds) he twirls his braids or sticks his thumb through 1 (so much for my style) he also plays with it when he gets sleepy. He loves to get his hair done and show it off after it’s done. He is NOT ashamed to ask you to pick him up so he can see in the mirror!  [BBH:  I ain’t mad… Shoooo I wanna see!!]

[BBH:  HA HA!  Look at that FACE!! Smh…  lil’cutie:) ]

BBH: Fave styling products these days ?
These days we are loving the DevaCurl line. [BBH:  I see]  Lil D’s curl pattern was suspect for a while, lil more wavy then curls… I started using Deva on my own curls and tried it on him and his curls are redefined and in full effect.  [BBH:  *Channels Full Force * BIG HAIR get busy one time!]

BBH: What are your thoughts on cutting his hair?
When I feel like he is old enough to know how he feels about being a boy with hair I will allow him to make that decision. Until then, the hair is here 🙂 [BBH: *queues Dream Team*  Oh Yessssss, it’s here….. BIG HAIR is here…Oh Yessssss, it’s here, BIG HAIR is here!] Recently his friends at daycare got haircuts, so he came home saying he wanted to get his haircut  :-/  That moment has passed. [BBH: Halelu!!]

BBH: Last but not least, anything you would like to share about haircare in general, styling and/or experiences.
I have 3 kids with all different hair. I have learned that you cannot treat any 2 heads alike. They all have their own products and routines that are suitable for their individual needs. There is no manual or specific right or wrong for this, learning along the way and experience has become my best teacher. [BBH: Amen!!  Let allll BIG  HAIR artisans say amen!!  Will there be one??  Won’t you come??]

[BBH:  Come here lil’man man…. LAWD please GIMME DAT BABY!!]

Thanks Mommy KeaShay and Lil D for participating!!!   Hhhhhhh.  All that hair on that sweet babyface?!? It’s a DREAM!!! Please take a moment to review the above pics again…. uhuh,  yeah…..I KNOW!?! *goes off*  Lil’cutiepie guy!  I mean, this child should be inducted into the Baby Big Hair Hall of Fame (Hhmmmmm *note to self to create one)!  OOWEEE, now lets not all crash DevaCurls webpage at one time lawd.  I officially put that brand on “product junkie” watch, LOL!  Alright now, please check out Lil Lady and Me for supacute tutus and accessories.  TRUST, you want some in your life for your BBH girl. MMhhmmmm…. If it were not so, I would not have told you:

See ^^^?!??!!?  Told you.  Now hit up the Lil Lady and Me FB Page and getsa’likin!!  Tell her Baby Big Hair sent you!   EEEK!  I heart it, but can’t stand it all at the same time! Mommy KeaShay, Lil D….

Go’Head Baby!

Welcome to “Baby Big Hair Blast” where we highlight BIG HAIR artisans and their muses:) Up next to the BBH stage is Mommy Cailin and her BIG HAIR twins, Carmel and Claire!  That’s right, its double the fun up in this joint!  A very 1st for Baby Big Hair and “We so exciiiiiited”!!  EEEK! Look at these sweet babygirls! OHGAAAAAAA!  I about LOST it when I got my hands on their froto pics!  Hhhhhhhh….  Well, we had the opportunity to “chat” down w/Mommy Cailin and get the 411 on these girls and allllllll that glorious BIG HAIR!!  Let’s get this started, shall we?

BBH: What is your hair washing routine?
We usually don’t wash our hair with shampoo and only cowash every 3-4 weeks using a cheap suave conditioner to clean and then use Herbal Essence’s Hello Hydration conditioner for about 20-30 min while I comb out their hair while they are in the tub. Rinse with cool water. Usually we then put on Giovanni Direct Leave-In and coconut oil.  [BBH:  Herbal Essence is getting its due in these Blasts  here lately!!  Yes!  We pre-poo with Giovanni Direct so we’der Mommy…we’der…]

BBH: What do you find are the challenges for styling the twins hair and how do you over come them?
Time is my biggest challenge. [BBH:  TELL SOMEBODY!!] I don’t want them to spend their lives getting their hair done [BBH:  Are you reading my MIND?!?!] and with two – I don’t want to  spend my life doing their hair. We have a very busy life and I would rather be out enjoying it rather than doing hair. Don’t hate me for saying that.  [BBH:  Hate you?  I APPLAUD YOU MA’AM! For real. Give me some simple protective styling that can flip to BIG HAIR on a dime and I’m straight, cuz *channels Sweet Brown*  AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR ‘DAT!!]

[BBH:  It’s the “2” poses that are taking me DOWNNNNN, stop! GET IN MA’PURSE!!]

BBH: How do you entertain the twins when styling their hair?
We have a “hair day” where we start as early as we can and watch movies, have treats all while sitting on my bed which is hair central on hair days. They do really well and rarely do we have any tears. They also now have Kindle Fires so those keep them occupied too.  [BBH:  Yup, yup! Electronic diversions can be your best friend….]

[BBH:  Wow…]

BBH: What are your fave products these days?
I am too cheap to be a product junkie. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on product only to find out that it doesn’t work.  [BBH:  Bedda preach!] So we usually stick with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration, good ‘ole extra virgin olive oil [BBH:  faithful she is], coconut oil, Giovanni Direct Leave-in and then Organic Root Stimulator Lock and Twist Gel and Snooth-n-Hold Pudding for the braids and twists. I make a mixture of water, EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration that I use daily to spritz on their hair and will every day or two put a dime to quarter size amount of coconut oil on their hair. [BBH:  Ahhhh yes, some classics in that joint! Niiiiiice]

[BBH:  Lawd help me…]

BBH: How do the twins feel about their hair?
They love their hair. Claire, the one with more hair does not like to wear her hair in an afro on a regular basis but I think that is because we live in a very lily white state [BBH: Nuh-uh Mommy, not lily white state, smh…] and she doesn’t see many girls with hair like hers not to mention it feels different when not ‘styled’ and it mats up requiring more care.  [BBH:  Now all jokes a side, that is a challenge even grown folks have.  You’ve said nothing but the truth.  But we’re getting there as a society. Itty bitty baby steps, but BIG HAIR is getting there…] They really like it when they can see the length and swing it back and forth  [BBH:  Bedda get more shiiiiiiine than a little bit!]

.

[BBH:  AGHHH! It’s too late… I’m melllltiiiiiiing <>]

BBH: Tips for wearing BIG HAIR or fav “quick” styles?
We usually choose simple hair styles such a twists/twist out and box braids. For the first two weeks of a style we usually leave it down and add bows or headbands. Then the next week or two we put their hair up in ponytails or French braids. They love this stage of the hair cycle for some reason. Carmel’s hair doesn’t mat or tangle as easily as Claire’s so she will rock a fro more often than her sister. I really like her hair with cornrows to the back of her head and then a fro in the back [BBH: jeah!]. It really shows off her cute face. Which is more important to me than the hair style itself.  [BBH:  I’m diggin’ that routine  ours is similar with BIG HAIR toward the end.  And AMEN!  *queues music*  I Am Not My Hairrrrrr]

BBH: Last but not least, anything you would like to share about haircare in general or experiences.
It has been a learning curve to say the least I am an adoptive mom who is white and have two beautiful AA/Native American girls and was a total newbie to curly hair. I am ever grateful for blogs such as yours which have given me hair tips and the like. Also, I wouldn’t trade their hair for anything.  [BBH:  Awhhhh… Truly honored.  EEK!  I feel a part of their hair:):):)]

[BBH: ^^^?!??! #CHECKEDOUT Lawd these BABIES!!]

Thanks Mommy Cailin, Carmel and Claire!!!  It is a dog’on WRAP!!!  I mean cuteness OVAHLOAD!!!  Seriously supacute!! Happy lil’thangs:) And can we all extend our fingers to this post and say “BLESS YO FINGAZ MOMMY CAILIN”??!?!?  Oo-to-the-wee!  I can not imagine.  But trust,  Mommy’s got BIG HAIR on lock and is SLAMMING it!  OK?!?  HHHhhhhhh.   Love her outlook on not being consumed by hair which is a life lesson for all for all BBH’s.  Hats off!  Mommy Cailin, Carmel and Claire…

Welcome to “Baby Big Hair Blast” where we highlight BIG HAIR artisans and their muses:) Up next to the BBH stage is Mommy Dezria and her sweet frolicious flower Madison.   Now that is a double dose of sweetness right there!!! Isn’t she just a doll ya’ll?!?!?  OHGAA and her hair??! What else could you ask for??  Well, we had the opportunity “chat down” with Mommy Dezria and get the goods on that gorgeous baby and ridonklulous  hair.  Let’s jump right on in, shall we?   OWEE!

BBH: What is your hair washing routine?
Madison gets her hair washed twice a week because she swims twice a week.  We use As I am, cowash coconut conditioner. [BBH:  Oooooo, nevah heard of it, PJ List! *jots down*]   It totally works for her hair because it doesn’t have the sulfates, so I dont have to worry about the over drying from frequent shampoos or the chlorine from the pool.

[BBH:  Sweet girl…:)  EEK!  POWAPUFFS!!]

BBH: What do you find are the challenges for styling Madison’s hair and how do you over come them?
Because Madison hair is fine in texture, providing volume to give a fuller effect was an issue. [BBH:  We have a lot of mommies wanting that “fullness” for BIG HAIR styles…do tell *criss cross applesauce*] But what I learned to do is a flat double strand twist with the use of a little Kinky Curly Hair Custard to avoid the hair frizzies and allow to air dry.  This is especially important because Madison models and the client generally wants them to arrive with clean hair and/or little hair product. [BHH:  Really?? They do? that’s one to grown on…]

BBH: How do you entertain Madison when styling her hair?
Madison normally will be playing a game on the Ipad or the laptop.  [BBH:  Yyyyup!  Especially when your doing small twists, can be a life saver!!]

BBH:  Fave products these days? As I am Coconut CoWash , Kinky Curly Hair Custard, Naked Leave in Conditioner, Moroccanoil Ultra Light Oil Treatment. [BBH:  OOWEEE!  Somebody look in the mirror and say PRODUCT JUNKIE, GET BEHIND THEE!]

BBH: How does Madison feel about her hair??
Madison is known for her hair at school [BBH:  HA! So is BBH, smh…], she says that her hair is what makes her famous.  She refuses to allow me to do ponytails with barrets on the ends. [BHH:  Ok THAT is jokes in a basket, LOVE HER!!!  Yes Hon! You can’t be taking the focus off of BIG HAIR lawd!!!]

[BBH: UGH!  She is so SUPASWEET! I want herrrr:/]

BBH: Tips for wearing BIG HAIR or fave “quick” styles.
Condition and moisturize.  Use headbands for easy wash and wear, or hair bands for an easy ponytail or two.   [BBH:  Yes, love the simplicity, very classic yet quick and easy.  A++  Mommy!]

BBH: Last but not least, anything you would like to share about haircare in general or experiences.
Because I am natural as well, I believe that if we maintain our hair without the use of alot of chemicals that it will trully define our beauty. Simplicity is the key. [BHH:  Uhp!  You and me??!?!  We’der… We right der…]

[BBH:  Lawd look at this little beauty!!!!  YOU^^^  in my pocket RIGHT NOW!!  OHGAAA!]

Thank you Mommy Dezria and Madison for participating.  Sweet fros a fire! (in my best Sweet Brown voice) Is that not the sweetest little thang evah?!?!  That purdy smile??  No wonder this baby is in print!!! I love how Mommy doesn’t make a lot of fuss, has perfected that BIG HAIR style and sticks to what works! OWEEE that last pic has that baby’s hair POPPINNNNNN!  Aint gonna even lie, she gave me a product junkie work out, looking up some of those there products.  Make a sister feel LATE, lol!  Let me stop, smh.  Mommy Dezria and Madison…
Go’Head Baby!
