Yee-Yeah!  How’s it fro’in ya’ll?? OK, so one of our BBH parents posted about Curls Unleashed by Organic Root Stimulator on our FaceBook Wall wondering if I was familiar with it (shout out to Mommy Gretchen!).  Well, I was not and put it on my “to try” product junkie list.  I’m already a fan of the Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Pak. Sure enough that  following weekend while taking a walk about in Walgreens (lawd I can never walk in, get what I need and be out,  HHhhhhhh..the devil) and there it was just begging for someone to take it home. Welcome to “Baby Big Hair Blast” where we highlight BIG HAIR artisans and their muses:) Up next to the BBH stage is Mommy Shannon and her little sunshine Naima. CAN YOU STAND IT?!?! Lawd what a sweet little yummy thang! And look at all that BIG HAIR! Just all glorious and delightful like… Well we had the opportunity to “chat down” with Mommy Shannon and get the 411 on that purdy baby and beautiful BIG HAIR, EEEK! Let’s get to it, shall wee?

BBH: What is your hair washing routine?
We wash hair about every other week…sometimes longer if I am being lazy or it doesn’t appear to “need it”. [BBH: o_O Well call me a lazy lima bean lawd, LOL! I manage to skate by with 3 weeks. Just for sanity sake. Bless yo fingaz Mommy!]

BBH: What do you find are the challenges for styling Naima’s hair and how do you over come them?
The challenges for me are keeping it from drying out when its not braided up or twisted. [BBH: *goes OFF* YESSSS!] Also just figuring out what I’m gonna do with it/how I’m gonna style it. I have limited knowledge and know-how so her styles aren’t very varied. [BBH: BIG HAIR will lead the way hon, always does…]

BBH: How do you entertain Naima when styling her hair?
We usually sit down to a movie and occasionally she will do her doll’s hair as I do hers. Also she likes to help thread the beads and pick them out when the style requires beads. [BBH: Ya’ll catch that? BEADS?! Talkin bout’som “styles aren’t varied” *turns mouth to the side*] Its good because it turns educational when she has to count out 5 black beads or 7 clear beads. 😉 [BBH: Bedda train up a chile!! Lovin the creativity Mommy!]

BBH: What are your fave products these days?
I’ve never been a product junky. [BBH: *shamefully looks down*] While some people can swear by a particular brand… in the beginning, I pretty much would use whatever. I try to make most of my own products at home when I can and use mostly organic coconut oil on our hair…but the products I sometimes will use are Taliah Waajid‘s “The Great Detangler”, Organic Root Stimulator‘s “Olive Oil Edge Control” only for the front edges of her hair for the smooth look when braiding, Jamaican “Mango and Lime Locking Gel (or Wax)” for the double strand twists [BBH: MMhmmm, fro’you’re right! Love those brands and one of our mommy’s hipped me to Jamaican Mango this week! Veddy interesting…]. For washing, I only use Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castille Soap and usually add my own essential oils or herbal tea washes [BBH: Noted!] In the past, I have also used Zuresh products. Outside of the Dr. Bronner’s, I’m not committed to any one brand over another…but I do try to stay away from the ones laden with harsh chemicals. [BBH: WHEW! My PJ friends doing okay out there??? She slipped those in on us didn’t she? LOL!! Love the DIY ideas!]

BBH: How does Naima feel about her hair??
She loves her hair, especially with beads on it. She loves my hair (locs) [BBH: Oooo I wanna see!!]. And she also loves straight/processed hair which she has seen on other people. I think she’s too young to understand it all, or have a true preference but I tell her that her hair will never look like “that” (straight) and compliment her on her braided and “fro” styles so that she feels secure/good about it/herself. [BBH: Awhhh, GOOD JOB MOMMY!! You ain’t playin’ over there!]

[BBH: Awahhhhh, SUPACUTIE!! I see you cornrows:)]

My favorite quick style when I am in a rush or lazy is just two simple cornrows [BBH: Simple?] down the front going behind the ear with loads of beads on it [BBH: <<< ya’ll see your girl??!?!] and a fro in the back. From there I can “change it up” by throwing in a random number pony tails something else real quick. [BBH: For real, that is genius!]

BBH: Last but not least, anything you would like to share about haircare in general or experiences.
I love her fro and puff ball looks. They are so cute and I only hope she grows up loving her hair in its natural form as much as I do! At some point, and as she gets older [BBH: Awhhh somebody hug a BBH!], I will definitely venture out and try out a natural hair saloon or something. But because I use no heat on her hair ever…I’ve always been weary of saloons…I think they can be quite harsh and I have no idea what’s in the products that they use. Its kinda scary. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step… I’m just not ready to take it quite yet. 😉 [BBH: Trust, from what I see you don’t have to!]

Thank you Mommy Shannon and Naima for participating!!! Lawd aint this child a CUTIEPATOOTIE!!!! EEEEEK! What a DOLLFACE and million dollar smile!! Loving these pics! She is just a basket of happiness. Get in my purse little girl!! And how about Mommy Shannon is on the humble humble, tearin’ up some BIG HAIR all by herself. Bedda save that mone-Mone-Moneh—MONEH! Shooooo keep BIG HAIR services in house as long as you can, OK?!?!?! Mommy Shannon and Naima…
