Welcome to “Baby Big Hair Blast” where we highlight BIG HAIR artisans and their muses:) Up next to the BBH stage is Mommy Cheryl of www.urbanmommys.com and her cutie lil’ man man Khevin. EEEEK! Boy BIG HAIR!!!!! And so handsome!!! Well, we had the opportunity to chat down with Mommy Cheryl and get the mots on that there cutie pie guy. Let’s get to it, shall we???
BBH: What is your hair washing routine?
During the school year, I wash Khevin’s hair every 3 or 4 weeks. I use Suave 2 in 1 Smoothers in different scents [BBH: Well that’s evrahwhere!!! Bet you never run out…]. I wash twice, rinse, then use Suave adult conditioner which I leave in. Khevin loves to sit in the tub putting mohawks in his hair until the water turns cold, but when the combing part comes, yikes, watch out! I comb it out in sections, dry it then braid it up. Six big braids only take about thirty five minutes, but they’ll be a mess by the end of the week so I usually have him sit for an hour and a half while I put in between 12 and 15 braids. If I remember to get a good movie on that he is really into, I can get it done without a peep [BBH: NOICE!!!]. Then he can put on a du-rag at night and be good for about a month. For different occasions, and most of the time during the summer we leave it out.
[BBH: Rubba Dub Dub, BBH in da TUB!!]
BBH: How do you keep Khevin’s hair moisturized?
Khevin’s hair gets really dry [BBH: Hhhhhhhh tell me about it]. I use a heavy duty conditioner after washing, and then I leave it in. When his hair is out I mix the conditioner with water and scrunch it into his hair.
BBH: How does Khevin feel about his hair?
He loves his big hair, but then combing must commence weekly and that is a pain. Now that he’s seven, he doesn’t cry anymore, he just yells things like, “Mom, come on! That really hurt! Ok, now you’re just trying to kill me!” [BBH: Not kill him, LOL! awhh lil’ man man...] When I get tired of hearing it I say, no problem, we can go to the barbershop… that ends it! [BBH: That’s right, zip it or zip zip! LOL!]
BBH: Fave styling products these days?
I have tried many different products, running out for all the new curl stuff that comes out. What I find is that they are really overpriced [BBH *shakes head* yeah, some are pricey…]. They don’t seem to work any different for costing double. After all of that I’ve found good ol’ Dax Pomade that I can get in any neighborhood drugstore or hair supply works just as good as anything else. [BBH: If it ain’t broke…]
BBH: What are your thoughts on cutting his hair?
I love his hair [BBH: I LOVE HIS HAIR!!!], I haven’t been able to even think of cutting an inch of it, but I often threaten to when he drives me crazy! I have a blog and use him, his brothers and cousins for most of my pictures (ok, mostly him) so he’s usually ready to pose in any way I need at the drop of a hat with a big smile!
