OO-TO-WEE!!! Love me some Janelle Monáe, OHGAAA! She is fierce, talented and BEAUTIFUL!! Just elegantly understated compared to female artists in the game today. This lady BIG HAIR is also a CoverGirl folks (no brainer, she’s GORG)! But what I appreciate most about her is her confidence and how she EXUDES beauty from within.
No “skirt up to here” or “blouse down to there” on this chick. Nope. She is well known for her signature “tuxedo chic” look and perfected pompadour which as a parent (and trust when I say I speak for the hubs too) is REFRESHING!!
Mind you the story behind it, homage to her working past as a maid and professions of her parents who also worked in uniforms. Check it from her acceptance speech at BLACK GIRLS ROCK! 2012:
“When I started my musical career I was a maid, I used to clean houses. My parents—my mother was a proud janitor, my step-father who raised me like his very own worked at the post office and my father was a trash man. They all wore uniforms. And that’s why I stand here today in my black and white and I wear my uniform to honor them…”
COME ON SOMEBODY!!! This is humility speaking, and it’s BEAUTIFUL!! HHHhhhh… But my walkaway from that same speech, what really resonated w/me was this:
“I want to be clear young girls, I didn’t have to change who I was to become a Covergirl, I didn’t have to become perfect because I’ve learned through my journey that perfection is the often the enemy of greatness. Embrace what makes you unique, even if it makes other uncomfortable.
BAMB! #BOOM. WHOMP DER IT IS! Take it to the BANK! Fro’Sho! WELLLLLLL *channels inner deacon* See… THAT^^^ is why Janelle Monáe gets MAD PROPS up in this joint, PLEASE BELIEVE IT!! For realz:/ Will there be one? Will one come? When I caught a glimpse of her new video of “Queen” featuring Eryka Badu and I was just DONE! EEEK, BIG HAIR and updo’s fro yo MIND! Some sleek styles too but, I’d take Janelle’s classic pompador style and Erykah’s BIG HAIR (on sale, ok?? LOL!) any day!!
Ms. Janelle Monáe..
